Nightingales

The front line is fighting hard
Nightingales every one
tending to the sick
not knowing when time’s done
braving every day the enemy
until the day will come,

when we’ll rejoice
and thank them every one
the Nightingales on the wards
in homes and all, bar none
we’ll thank them for their valour
by them the war is won.

we owe them everything
those that risk their life
their selfless acts for strangers
saving, child, man and wife
they have but one focus
keeping us well is their drive.

Pin the medals on their chests
for they had no orders
they did their lot willingly
they went past the borders
gave so much love and care
nothing did they hoarder

Indebted to them, so many
volunteers every one
left their homes to fight
a light of love they shone
we pray God keeps them safe
till the nightingales have won.
